Baselworld 2014 certainly didn’t disappoint it's visitors. Breitling were amoungst several brands using their unique heritage as inspiration and this was one of my personal highlights.
In the early nineteen eighties, Breitling developed a brand new aviation chronograph in conjunction with the Italian Airforce acrobatics team specifically designed for pilot’s needs. The Chronomat was first launched in 1983 but, aware of how perfectly the watch encapsulated the brands philosophy of performance, Breitling celebrated its centenary the following year by launching Chronomat as part of their main collection. This year, to celebrate 30 years of the now iconic Chronomat, Breitling has created a special series of watches which revives the design and spirit of the original watch.
The Chronomat Airborne is available in 41 and 44mm case sizes and with two dial variations, black with silver counters and silver with black counters. The watch has either a steel bracelet or a military style, ultra-sturdy fabric strap, and the case back is engraved with the inscription “Edition Speciale 30th Anniversaire”.
