The stunning Southern League Football Trophy, won by the champions for 2013, Leamington Football Club, is to be restored to its former glory and by Tustains Jewellers. The huge trophy, which has been on display in the Regent Street store, dates back to 1895, so it shares its birthday with the Leamington jewellery business, also founded 118 years ago. The trophy was recently won by the Leamington football team, who headed the Southern League Premier Division this year. The team also have a long history, with their first season kick-off in 1891.
Both Leamington FC and Tustains have had an eventful year, which culminated in both winning at the new Pride of Warwick District Awards- the football club won “Team of the Year” and Tustains Jewellers collecting the “Best Customer Service” award.
Nic Sproul, Commercial Director of Leamington Football Club and Tom Milner from Tustains congratulated each other on their shared success at the Pride Awards ceremony in July, held at the Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, where they were seated on adjacent tables. The relationship between store and club has been strengthened by the sponsoring by Tustains of the “Golden Goal” competitions and their role as official timing partners during the home matches this season. For Nic, the success of the team last season has been due to the great work done by the volunteers at the club and their ability to work together. “Our volunteer team has been as successful off the pitch as our players have been on the pitch” he commented “ we are very fortunate to have such dedicated followers who are willing to give up their leisure time to make our club a very special place to be”.
Both Joe and Tom Milner, owners of Tustains Jewellers, are keen football fans themselves, and enjoy the opportunity to help the local community by getting involved with football. “ It’s always great to be able to give something back to our town, whether this involves our official sponsorship or our expertise in restoring this historic trophy” added Tom, “ the Golden Goal competition provides a little light-hearted fun for the regular fans each game and, of course, we are looking forward to more successful collaboration with the club in the coming years”.
