Andy has spent 39 years taking part and inspiring others in his beloved game of football and he’s been selected as our January local sporting hero. Andy started playing football, aged 10, for the Junior team in its inaugural season back in 1975. A personal career highlight for Andy was his team winning the Coventry City Charity cup at Highfield road. Today the club has expanded and they now have 12 different teams at the Kenilworth Club.
A firm believer in sport for all, Andy has organised and coached football teams for boys, girls, ladies and now is involved in the over 35’s men’s team. As a youth club worker he initially started coaching youth teams. As he has gone on to coach many different teams his motivation now comes from seeing them develop as players and winning matches themselves.
Off the pitch he has taken on every role possible, including secretary, treasurer and chairman of the club committee. Andy is currently club secretary. He’s not afraid to get back to the basics of hard graft either, helping as groundsman, manning the bar and doing the occasional spot of cleaning when needed. He’s been involved in raising money for the club organising ‘race nights’ running tombola stalls and raffles.
Andy doesn’t know what role he will undertake next, but his love of the sport will ensure he involved for many more years to come. We are delighted to name him as our January Sporting Hero and wish him every future success.
