Years of experience go into the new Tustains engagement ring collection
Joe Milner, co-director at family jeweller Tustains in Leamington Spa, has used his years of experience helping couples or men about to get engaged chose rings, in designing the new Tustains Collection. Every customer is encouraged to come into the store and look at the range of settings and diamonds in their own time, giving the customer the excitement of choosing something unique. Each finished piece is then hallmarked with the prestigious Tustains brand, so they have an assurance of the quality of their purchase. This year Tustains celebrates its 120th anniversary and the family company have been leading the way in their industry, having recently won several national watch and jewellery awards.
“Our role is to listen to the customers looking for engagement rings and provide help, advice and support” says Joe. “Unlike most other large value purchases, most of our customers feel they know very little about diamonds at the start and are therefore understandably nervous about making a 2selection. The huge amount of choice and wide variety of prices that’s now advertised on websites almost makes this decision more confusing and difficult. Here at Tustains we always take lots of time to show customers the different diamonds and settings, and explain their qualities. I feel that this puts a lot of the excitement back into the process and reduces the stress of making the wrong choice”.
Customers are encouraged to visit the store, often several times, and discuss their ideas about the design they like best, their preference of quality and size of the gemstones which fit their budget. Once this is agreed if the gemstone is not in Tustain’s comprehensive stock, Joe will order some diamonds for the customer to approve before the ring is finally completed. For guys making a choice alone, he encourages them to use sketches and photos to show to their family and friends in secret before they propose, so that they know it’s a style their girlfriend will love. ”Because each diamond is naturally unique, no two engagement rings are ever the same” says Joe. “Every bride to be wants to be made to feel special, and I believe there is no better way to do this than present an engagement ring that has been carefully considered just for them”.
Giorgio Demetriou was a recent customer of one of the engagement rings. He talked about his experience. “The whole process is an odd purchase. If you are buying a new car, you have a clear idea of the make and model that you want to buy. When I was buying a diamond ring, I was basically wholly unqualified to design jewellery. Joe was able to bring my knowledge up to a level so that I knew what I was asking for. They are very good at Tustains at what they do – there is no hard sell, they work with you and spend time with you so that you can make an informed choice about what is an important decision. I struggle to explain fully how helpful they’ve been, I cannot fault them, and I’ll be going back soon to talk about wedding rings!”
Dave Bracegirdle, another customer agrees. “Initially I did some research online looking for an engagement ring. I wanted to find a local supplier and needed somewhere where they offered a personal service. Spending this amount of money on a purchase that you expect to do only once in your lifetime is an important decision, so an individual service with advice and experience is a big help. Joe's calm nature also helped take away some of the stress of "popping the question" and once my partner had seen Joe's creation she had to say yes! I'd had to guess the size and got it close, but Tustains also subsequently re-sized the ring perfectly and with no extra cost.”
